A UK rapid-response movement

1 MILLION GAYS GIVE A SHIT

One mailing list, one account, so when our community gets attacked in the media we all hear about it within hours and move together.

How it works

Who it's for

Everyone's welcome here. But gay men, we're talking to you.

01 / 05

The truth

We enjoy more freedom than we ever have, and we didn't get it by accident.

02 / 05

Who won it

The whole LGBTQ+ family fought for this. Lesbians, trans people, the ones who took the hits before it was ever safe.

03 / 05

Our turn

They carried all of us forward. Now it's on us to step up and carry the weight.

04 / 05

The door

Gay, trans or ally, if you give a shit you're one of us. Gay men, we just need you in first.

05 / 05

How it works

One signal, loud enough to land.

Put a million of us in one place, and when something kicks off everyone hears about it within hours and acts together, with the same complaint on the same day pointing the same direction. Not a mob, just a number too big to ignore.

01

Know

You hear the second something happens, within hours rather than days.

02

Act

One clear thing to do, whether that's a review, a complaint or a share, and it takes two minutes.

03

Win

We move together, we make it count, and then we say so, loudly.

The count

394

gays who give a shit

999,804 more to reach a million

Are you a gay who gives a shit?

How we hit a million

Every gay brings one ally, and that's the whole plan.

So, who are you inviting?

Hey, I've just joined 1 Million Gays Give A Shit. It's simple: a million of us and our allies on one list, so when the community gets attacked in the media we act together instead of alone, and everyone brings one person. You're mine, so add your name here: https://1milliongays.com

The problem

Right now, we care separately.

A broadcaster puts something vile on air, a brand drops us the moment we cost them a headline, and thousands of us are left furious and alone, each on our own phone. By Friday it has blown over and nothing has changed.

It isn't that nobody cares, it's that we care separately. The one thing these institutions actually respond to is a number big enough that ignoring us costs them more than fixing it, and we have always had those numbers, we've just never had them in the same place.
